Dream expert and neurosurgeon Rahul Jandial reacts to iconic dream scenes on Film & TV
Neuroscientist, neurosurgeon and dream doctor, Rahul Jandial, looks at how accurate portrayals of dreams are in popular films and TV shows. He explains how we dream, why we dream and what the content of our dreams may mean.
You can get his new book, This Is Why You Dream: What your sleeping brain reveals about your waking life, here: www.penguin.co.uk/books/454635/this-is-why-you-dream-by-jandial-rahul/9781529909449
Dreams are a source of mystery. They have changed the course of individual lives and the world, spurring business deals, inspiring art and scientific breakthroughs, triggering military invasions and mental breakdowns. Yet the source of dreams is not mysterious. They are the product of an extraordinary transformation that occurs in the brain each night when we sleep. In this pioneering book, bestselling neurosurgeon Rahul Jandial delves into the dreaming brain and shares stories from his own practice to show the astonishing impact that dreams have on our waking life. He explains how dreaming of an exam might help you score up to 20% higher, why taking a long nap could make you better at problem-solving, and even that certain dream disorders can warn you of serious diseases like Parkinson’s years ahead of other symptoms. He offers clear and compelling advice, backed by new research, to become a lucid dreamer, understand your dreaming patterns and unleash their creative power.

I remain skeptical about the authenticity of the U.S. moon landings. Given that contemporary technology still requires multiple refuelings to reach the moon, which hasn't been accomplished yet, I find it hard to accept the historical claims of moon landings as factual.

If you were truly skeptical, you would also direct skepticism towards your own confirmation-bias, and why you appear to be directly comparing two different missions as comparing apples to apples when they are not. You say that ‘contemporary technology still requires multiple refuelings to reach the moon’. But you don’t support your claim with any evidence or context at all. *THE MOON LANDING DENIERS MINDSET* Denialism is more than just another manifestation of the humdrum intricacies of our deceptions and self-deceptions. In the psychology of human behavior, denialism is a person's choice to deny reality as a way to avoid a psychologically uncomfortable truth. Denialism is an essentially irrational action that withholds the validation of a historical experience or event when a person refuses to accept an empirically verifiable reality. 🔆

Did everyone who earned a degree in aerospace engineering, or became an astronaut get a visit from the Men In Black, warning them not to talk about the Apollo fakery ? And what happened to those who refuse to cooperate ? Were they murdered ? Were they zapped by that little flashy thingy the MIB used to stealthily reprogrammed their memories ? And how come NASA was so inept when producing all those photographs ? So clumsy in concealing the ‘fakery’ ? How come only people with no significant aerospace qualifications see all those alleged ‘anomalies’ in all those video recordings, film and photos ? While those who actually worked on the Apollo Moon Program have no doubt whatsoever about the reality of the SIX Moon Landings ? Is it really believable that unskilled amateurs can find real anomalies that the experts in the field have failed to notice ? And isn’t it rather arrogant for Moon Hoax theorists to imply that by watching a few UA-cam videos and looking at a few low-quality photos, they can outsmart an astronaut or an aerospace engineer with years of practical experience ? The astronauts should have been able to jump higher and move more easily on the moon, but they did not perform any extraordinary athletic feats. The weight of the spacesuits and gear does not match up with the reported gravity on the moon. The evidence suggests that the moon landing was staged or filmed somewhere else.

Larry Baysinger, a technician for WHAS radio in Louisville, Kentucky, independently detected and recorded transmissions between the Apollo 11 astronauts on the lunar surface and the Lunar Module. He could only detect messaged FROM the lunar vehicles and not to them, cause the earth was between him and Huston. 12. The Soviet Union, who monitored the missions at their Space Transmissions Corps, who's leader Vasily Mishin, in an interview for the article "The Moon Programme That Faltered", describes how the Soviet Moon programme dwindled after the Apollo landing. 13. The absurdity that thousands of people who worked on the Apollo missions would have to be kept silent for years and years without a single person coming forward to claim it was a fraud. 14. In October-November 1977, the Soviet radio telescope RATAN-600 observed all five transmitters of ALSEP scientific packages placed on the Moon surface by all Apollo landing missions excluding Apollo 11. Their selenographic coordinates and the transmitter power outputs (20 W were in agreement with the NASA reports. 15. Images taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission beginning in July 2009 show the six Apollo Lunar Module descent stages, Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) science experiments, astronaut footpaths, and lunar rover tire tracks. These images are the most effective proof to date to rebut the "landing hoax" theories. Although this probe was indeed launched by NASA, the camera and the interpretation of the images are under the control of an academic group - the LROC Science Operations Center at Arizona State University, along with many other academic groups. At least some of these groups, such as German Aerospace Center, Berlin, are not located in the US, and are not funded by the US government. 16. After the images shown here were taken, the LRO mission moved into a lower orbit for higher resolution camera work. All of the sites have since been re-imaged at higher resolution. Comparison of the original 16 mm 17. Apollo 17 LM camera footage during ascent to the 2011 LRO photos of the landing site show an almost exact match of the rover tracks. 18. Further imaging in 2012 shows the shadows cast by the flags planted by the astronauts on all Apollo landing sites. The exception is that of Apollo 11, which matches Buzz Aldrin's account of the flag being blown over by the lander's rocket exhaust on leaving the Moon. 19. Spain and Australia were 2/3rds of the DSN that received all of the TV broadcasts from the moon. 20. Dozens of tracking stations around the world (including from enemies) used radar and radio telescopes to track all of the missions. You can find more info about this on MIT's site. The tracking was accurate to within 1 mile. 21. Spain had the largest telescope on Earth at the time, and used it to photograph the SIVB fuel dumps around the moon (which spanned out for miles, thus were visible to a large enough telescope), as well as the Apollo 13 debris and gas field (same dynamic). 22. There are more than 100,000 photos taken from lunar orbit. 23. The Jodrell Bank Observatory tracked the movements of the Eagle Lunar Module from the beginning of its descent clear down to the lunar surface by monitoring the doppler shift in its telemetry signal. * Comment courtesy of DemonDrummer 1018*

Stop parroting what you've watched on ignorant conspiracy YT fake moon landing siteS THE SUPPOSED LOST APOLLO 11 TAPES NASA searched for but could not locate some of the original Apollo 11 data tapes - “original” in the sense that they directly recorded data transmitted from the Moon. An intensive search of archives and records concluded that the most likely scenario was that the program managers determined there was no longer a need to keep the tapes - since all the video and data were recorded elsewhere - and they were erased and reused. The data on those tapes, including video data, were relayed to the Manned Spacecraft Center (now the Johnson Space Center), during the mission. The video was recorded there and in other locations; there is no missing video footage from the Apollo 11 moonwalk. The search discovered high-quality broadcast versions of the footage. NASA worked with Lowry Digital, a premier film restoration company, to process the video using techniques unavailable in 1969. The restored video was released in HD as part of the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. NASA did not lose any film or telemetry tapes but rather the taped recordings of raw analogue video transmitted back from the Apollo 11spacecraft. The tapes were made using specially designed, high-capacity recording gear in order to capture the raw transmissions at the point of receipt in case anything should go wrong with the elaborate system used to convert them to a standard broadcast signal. Nothing did go wrong, and once the conversion and transmission was complete, the recordings were no longer needed for their original purpose. Any magnetic recording media has a limited life. The magnetic fields of the stored data decay over time. For this reason, and because high-grade tapes were very expensive, they were never considered an archival medium. It may seem odd today, but in 1969, the second-hand copies filmed off specially built, flat screen CRT displays were considered the archival copies, and we still have a number of these, including some shot by NASA and some shot third or fourth hand by television networks and affiliates. 😎

*Going down the proverbial 'Rabbit Hole' of Conspiratorial Thinking* One of the important characteristics of conspiracy theories such as that the SIX Apollo Moon Missions were faked, is that they are immune to real evidence. All evidence is interpreted to support the conspiracy. Correct evidence is hidden. Contradictory evidence is planted. And faced with evidence that might disprove the conspiracy, believers move the 'goal posts' and make excuses. This is often seen in the tactic of the 'Gish Gallop'. Example. Changing the subject of discussion. *Generally there's a double standard for evidence. Official sources can't be trusted. But a random nobody guy on You Tube, or a podcast knows the truth And often the evidence is simply perceived motivations and the vague notion that something must be wrong* If you care about what really is truth, it's important to protect our beliefs from falsification. If a belief is true, it will withstand scrutiny. So scrutinise them. Importantly, there are real conspiracies, but finding them requires critical thinking and evidence. Not conspiratorial thinking. The bottom line is, Critical Thinking is empowering. But conspiratorial thinking is anything but. So it's best to avoid the proverbial 'Rabbit Hole' of self delusions.

Tyson's analysis of God is unworthy of a scientist. He starts out by making a huge, unsupported assumption-- that God's job is to micromanage every element of our massively complex universe to make sure that nothing bad ever happens to anybody. And if God isn't his personal fairy godmother, He isn't worth considering. The universe is clearly designed, as Tyson knows quite well, to operate by self-perpetuating processes. The Moon doesn't stay in orbit because God holds onto it every second of the day. It stays in orbit because the universe is designed with a number of precisely calibrated forces which interact to produce complex but utterly reliable effects like an orbit, or the trajectory of a spaceship, or the swing of a pendulum. It also doesn't occur to Tyson that maybe God has plans of His own beyond the management of our comfort and longevity, plans that play out over a span of time that Tyson can't even conceive of, playing out in a realm that takes in more than the eighty-odd years of corporeal existence that makes up this phase of our immortal being. Tyson is like a child who reasons that since Daddy sometimes takes him to a horrid place where a man sticks a stick down his throat and jabs a needle in his arm and gives him yucky medicine to swallow, and since Daddy makes him go to a big, scary, boring school where he has to listen attentively to things he doesn't care about and do exercises that he hates, and because Daddy makes him eat horrid vegetables instead of chocolate cake, well, Daddy must not be a very loving or powerful individual. Children are incapable of seeing the larger picture, or even of conceiving that there might be one.
